Oil paintings exploring sandstorms as metaphor — for regional obstacles, shared vulnerability, and the hope that exists within chaos. Produced during the Doha Fire Station Artist-in-Residence, 2018–2019.
These large-scale oil paintings on Belgian linen stand as metaphors for the obstacles and challenges the region faces. At first glance, they present an overwhelming sense of power and scale that sandstorms possess — chaos, confusion, and beauty rendered in sweeping gestural strokes. But beneath the turbulence is a quieter message: that hope is waiting on the other side. Produced during my ten-month Artist-in-Residence at the Doha Fire Station (2018–2019), the series explores the idea that we are all consumed and connected by the same dust.
