Charcoal drawings inspired by Gerhard Richter's "Betty," exploring cultural identity and concealment through the turned figure draped in traditional Qatari dress. Works on paper.

Inspired by Gerhard Richter's "Betty," this series of charcoal drawings explores cultural identity through the Qitra and Shayla — traditional Qatari garments that simultaneously reveal and conceal. Each figure is turned away from the viewer, inviting questions about what we project onto the unseen face and what the turned back chooses to protect. In a culture where attitudes toward portraiture encourage non-literal expressions of identity, the reversal becomes both a cultural gesture and a compositional strategy.
